Considered the negation of color, black is conservative, goes well with almost any color except the very dark.
It also has conflicting connotations. It can be serious and conventional.
The color black can also be mysterious, sexy, and sophisticated.
Culture of Black:
In most Western countries black is the color of mourning. Among young people, black is often seen as a color of rebellion. Black is both positive and negative. It is the color for little boys in China. Black, especially combined with orange is the color of Halloween.
In early Westerns the good guy wore white while the bad guy wore black. But later on good guys wore black to lend an air of mystery to themselves.
Use the color black to convey elegance, sophistication, or perhaps a touch of mystery.
Using Black with Other Colors:
Be careful using black with very dark colors. It can work, but if the colors are too similar they blend together. Black works well with bright, jewel-toned shades of Red, Blue, and Green. Black is the ultimate dark color and makes lighter colors such as Yellow really pop out. Photographs often look brighter against a black background. Black and Gray is a conservative combo as is medium or light Blue and black.
Black in interiors:
Black interior design is very hot in some parts of Europe and the black color can be just about anything you want it to be. It can be a great accent color or it can be the color you build your whole decoration around.
the use of black in interior design can create a stunning and dramatic decor.
For example using Black with white color gives a fresh, clean, sophisticated and elegant look to any room.
The use of Black with an accent color:
Black is a fantastic ground color that can be used in other ways too; if you just add one light and bright color scale to the black and white colors you will get a completely different room.

Black is the best color to use if you want to give more depth into other bright and strong colors and can get other colors to lift in a fantastic way.
black rich glossy lacquer paint finishes are very popular in Japanese design, combined with red and white, provides a very striking look.
Black is often said to stand for drama, courage and elegance and if you use black in the right way it will make a huge difference in your decoration.
A black granite bench top creates a look of sophistication and elegance in the kitchen.
It is a good color to use on the floor as it is dark and grounds the color Scheme.
Black color is used often for light fittings, accessories and door hardware to provide a neutral color from which to work your color scheme around.
It is a popular color for leather furniture, it looks sleek and smart and powerful in corporate offices especially when teamed with chrome and glass.

How much black you use or how you use it is only limited by your imagination.

Use black for:
– Create an atmosphere of mystery
– Impressions of warmth
– Expression of strength and solidarity
– To hide things that you don’t want to highlight as it does not reflect light from it. If you want something to disappear, use a matt black and it often goes unnoticed.
Avoid pure black:
– In children’s rooms
– In places of healing
– In services
– In the field to read
